You might find your Pilgrims Choice has a coating of white crystals on it – they’re called Calcium Lactate. And these crystals are a cheddar’s best friend.
Not only does Calcium Lactate add extra crunch to our cheese but it also indicates that the cheese will have a hearty and complex flavour and it’s found only in the most flavourful cheddar. Like ours.

TerraCycle® is a recycling company, renowned for finding ways to recycle even the most hard-to-recycle waste.
As Pilgrims Choice packaging is not yet recyclable via your household waste, it needs to be recycled in a special way, which is where TerraCycle® comes in. We’ve partnered with experts TerraCycle® to offer you a simple and free recycling option whilst we continue to work hard to provide a packaging that is 100% recyclable whilst maintaining our taste tingling flavour.
Pilgrims Choice has partnered with TerraCycle, a global recycling company that helps brands like us to recycle packaging that is currently not able to be done through our household bins. The Pilgrims Choice Recycling Programme is free recycling programme that allows you to recycle any brand and type of flexible cheese packaging. The programme is free to sign up and you can participate in 2 ways: 1. By collecting and dropping off your cheese packaging at your nearest public location or 2. By setting up a public drop off location.
As part of this programme, you can recycle ANY brand of flexible plastic cheese packaging. More details on accepted packaging waste here.
