At Pilgrims Choice, we believe that even the smallest of changes can make a big difference, which is why we’ve committed ourselves to a Plastic Pledge to make helping the environment easier! Because it might be just one small choice, but when it’s a choice made by 8 billion people, it’s so much more.
We started with removing the zip from all our Megablock cheese packaging, contributing to a 40% plastic reduction. This in turn allows us to save even more packaging when we deliver to our customers, which means that buying a single Megablock reduces your plastic too!
So unzip your cheese, and take the Plastic Pledge with us. Make the everyday fantastic by following our easy and accessible tips to reduce your plastic - it’s a little that makes a lot.
At Pilgrims Choice, we’re all committing to less plastic in our lives, both in our products and at home.
The Megablock is the perfect example of how one small purchase can make a difference in creating less plastic waste, and we’re keen to make the Plastic Pledge just as easy to follow.
These handy hacks from our team are designed to help you find your fantastic with less plastic.
Make your Megablock a mega star - simply wrap the excess packaging around the end of your block to seal in the flavour. Alternatively there’s lots of things that you’ve already got around your home that can be used-No extra packaging required, trust us!
Bags of help - keep all your bags! You don’t need fancy totes to reduce your usage, just reuse the ones you have again and again.
Opt out to help out - where possible look out for the little tick box at the checkout when ordering groceries or other items on line about having your items individually packaged. Most of the time you don’t need this, and it’s an easy way to minimise additional plastic in your order.
Free your fruit and veg - when it comes to loose produce, only use paper bags if available, or simply put them straight into your basket or trolley. Your fruit and veg were exposed to the elements, they’ll survive your shop!
Love your leftovers - it’s great to use up leftover food, but avoid covering with cling film. If it’s in a bowl, simply cover with a side plate, or decant into a reusable container. If you really need to cover it, try using a reusable covers such as versatile wax wrap.
Get creative with your cooking - can’t go without your daily snack bar or have a penchant for a particular pot of nibbles? Experiment with making your own - you can also add your own twist to make the snack you’ve always dreamed of.
Swap the staples - when you can, choose alternative products to staples such as milk and bread that aren’t wrapped in plastic. Try milk in glass bottles and bread wrapped in paper - it’s also a great way to try something new too!
Bulk is best - consider purchasing larger quantities, less often. Whether that’s a 3kg bag of rice or one big clothes shop, you’ll reduce the amount of packaging required in delivery, and might save some money too.
Reuse not refuse - try to reuse what plastic items you have more than 5 times. Investing in water bottles, cups and cutlery that are designed to be reused are great, but even using the plastic bottle you already have more than once is another not purchased.
Pass on the pledge - educate your friends and family on what they can do to reduce their plastic use, and commit to the plastic pledge together. Remember, it’s a little from a lot of us that will make a difference. Share how you’re reducing your plastic with #myplasticpledge
